Introduction to substantive themes, historical problems and analytical methods comprising Black or African American History with attention to key concepts such as race, diaspora, gender, sexuality, class, slavery, Blackness, freedom, abolition, civil and human rights. With broad temporal focus, this lecture course centers Black life in the making of the United States within a global diasporic context from 1491 to the present.Introduction to substantive themes, historical problems, and analytical methods comprising Black or African American History with attention to key concepts such as race, diaspora, gender, sexuality, slavery, Blackness, freedom, civil rights, and human rights, centering on contributions to the making of the U.S. nation-state.
