This survey course reviews the peoples, places, and things that have shaped Louisiana from its Indigenous origins and early European settlement to the present. In it, students will be asked to compare and contrast how Louisiana lives have been described, influenced, and changed by significant moments in Louisiana history.

By the end this course it is expected that the student will have a good grasp on the larger narrative of Louisiana history and where it fits in relation to broader U.S. history, and to read primary and secondary sources critically.
